Question by rockethot

: Are both of these motherboards compatible with an Intel Core i7 2600k ?

Here are the mother boards:

Asus LGA 1366 Intel X58 Extreme Reliability and Durability ATX Motherboard Sabertooth X58

and

ASUS P7P55D-E Pro – LGA 1156 – Intel P55 – DDR3 – USB 3.0 SATA 6Gb/s – ATX Motherboard

Will I be able to use an Intel Core i7 2600k on them with out any trouble?

Also, which of these motherboards should I get?

Neither of them are. You need an LGA 1155 socket board. H67 or P67 and you can easily use your Intel Core i7 2600K

    @XxAncientxXX i decided not to overclock my cpu. i wouldve bought an OC version+P67 or better mobo if i couldve got it for the same price. anyway p67 mobos do support EFI but the one i chose. it was a low end p67 mobo. i wouldnt use OC ing anyway so i stick to P8H67-M by Asus. and i5 2500 with a HD6950.

    @gabrocki
    go Z68 NO ARUGING
    why buy H67 or P67, and only being able to use a certain part of your chip
    when you can get a Z68 and get best of both world, with quicksync , Smart Response, EFI BIOS (Asus does really nice job on that)

    @CvdSNiNeTy i dont know… z68 aint cheap either.

    @gabrocki you could go with a Z68 mobo, that’s a combination of the H67 and the P67. It has EFI and some other cool features, you should check that out.

    @CvdSNiNeTy i will mostly play games and render a video twice a year. thx. :D the i5 will be enough for me.
    one more question: should i go for a mobo that supports EFI BIOS – so it will also support Win 8 but has H67 chipset (no OCing), or a mobo with P67 chipset, the ability of OCing but no EFI – no Win 8 support. (the newest Windows will only support EFI bios as i heard…)
    the main point of the question is: is CPU OCing important in games? does it increase fps by a lot?

    @gabrocki the i7 got hyper threading, which 99% of the games don’t use, if you are gonna use your pc for example for videoeditting/rendering the i7 is much better

    Bear is right, also afaik you can’t change the multiplier when overclocking on a h67 mobo so go for p67 if you are set on the k version. ( No need to get the k version if you are not overclocking.)
